The cottage

The view is the reason people come back

Mount Sturgeon fills the glass from the living room, the deck and the main bedroom, and nothing sits between you and it but paddock and red gums. Guests tell us the same three things: the view is better than the photos, it is quieter than they expected, and they felt looked after. The whole cottage is yours for the stay, with twenty acres to wander, a wood fire for winter, and long evenings on the deck in summer.

Mount View, Mereweather Lane

Six generations under the mountain

The Mereweathers took up this land in the 1850s, when Dunkeld was barely a town and the Royal Mail Hotel was still being built. The lane still carries their name, and their descendants run the cottage today. The paddock between you and the mountain is the same one they looked out on more than 170 years ago.

The quiet end of the Grampians

Dunkeld sits where the Grampians run out into the Western District plains. Mount Sturgeon and Mount Abrupt rise straight off the town, the Grampians Peaks Trail finishes here, and the Royal Mail Hotel has made the town a destination for food and wine in its own right. From the cottage you can walk to all of it.
